Description
This teacup features ten deer moving through a tranquil mountain landscape. Eight appear around the exterior—grazing, resting, drinking, running, and playing—while two additional deer are painted inside the cup, creating a lively scene that continues from exterior to interior.
Huashan combines layered cobalt washes with the distinctive underglaze white technique to create depth across the landscape. Fine brushwork captures the deer’s expressions, fur, and movement, while carefully balanced open space gives the composition a natural rhythm.
The cup adopts the traditional recessed-foot form, allowing it to rest securely on the table while maintaining a light, balanced silhouette. Its open rim encourages heat to dissipate naturally and provides ample space to appreciate the tea as it unfolds.

The name “Lulu Liansheng” (鹿鹿连升) plays on a Chinese expression associated with continuous advancement and progress.
The word for deer, lu (鹿), also echoes lu (禄), traditionally associated with prosperity, status, and good fortune. This gives the deer another auspicious layer of meaning.
Rather than treating the deer as static symbols, Huashan brings them to life within the landscape.
Ten deer appear in different moments—grazing, resting, drinking, running, and interacting with one another. As the cup turns in the hand, the composition unfolds like a continuous landscape painting.
Variations of cobalt create distance and depth, while the changing postures of the deer bring rhythm and vitality to the scene.
Deer along the path, prosperity along the way; step by step, may you continue to rise.
