Using pure cobalt-blue pigment, an artisan of Huashan Zhuoyin applies the traditional fenshui shading technique in carefully layered tones to evoke the expressive texture of ink-wash lotus leaves. Delicate lines capture blossoms in full bloom alongside buds just beginning to open, while occasional blushes of kiln-transformed red appear subtly at the tips of the petals.
