Description
Huashan affectionately names the goldfish “Jinyu” (金玉), evoking the traditional blessing Jinyu Mantang—a wish for abundance and prosperity. Goldfish swimming among aquatic plants also recall the expression Ruyu Deshui, “like a fish in water,” symbolizing harmony, ease, and flourishing in one’s surroundings.
Rather than following conventional decorative patterns, Huashan focuses on the living character of real goldfish. Through careful observation, each fish is painted with distinctive features—from expressive eyes and rounded heads to shimmering scales and flowing, skirt-like tails.
In every composition, the goldfish remains the true protagonist. Aquatic plants and rippling water serve only as subtle accents, allowing each fish to appear naturally alive—gliding quietly, gathering together, or moving playfully through the water.
The result is not simply a decorative goldfish motif, but a vivid underwater world captured on porcelain.

Goldfish have long appeared on Jingdezhen porcelain, but Huashan does not seek to reproduce a fixed decorative pattern. The intention is to capture the presence of a living fish.
It begins with observation—the expression of its eyes, the rounded form of its head, the shimmer of individual scales, and the way its flowing tail moves gently through the water.
These details of real life are then translated onto porcelain.
Aquatic plants remain understated and rippling water becomes secondary, allowing the goldfish itself to take center stage.
Porcelain becomes the canvas; color becomes the brush—a living underwater world captured in miniature.
