Description
Blue & White “Leisurely Stroll” Yulan Teacup
Inspired by the graceful form of a magnolia blossom, this Yulan teacup features a gently curved silhouette flowing from its rim to its foot. Its rounded body and refined proportions evoke a magnolia flower beginning to bloom.
The porcelain body is hand-painted in blue and white with a charming young duck taking a leisurely stroll. Fine yet expressive brushwork captures its soft feathers, slightly awkward posture, and curious upward gaze, balancing realistic observation with the spontaneity of traditional hand painting.
On the reverse is a handwritten line adapted from Tang Yin’s Song of the Peach Blossom Cottage:
“Others laugh at my madness; I laugh that they cannot see.”
Painting and calligraphy meet across the vessel, bringing together the elegance of the Yulan form and the playful spirit of the duck in a distinctly literati-inspired expression.

A little duck, a leisurely stroll, and a quiet expression of living freely.
Huashan turns his attention from traditional landscapes and flowers toward the small moments of everyday life, portraying three young ducks in different states of being: “Leisurely Stroll,” “Carefree,” and “At Ease.” This teacup depicts Leisurely Stroll.
The duck is not rushing toward a destination. It simply stands with its head raised, moving through the world at its own pace. Its charmingly awkward posture comes from careful observation of nature, bringing warmth and gentle humor into traditional blue-and-white porcelain.
The handwritten verse by Ming-dynasty artist and poet Tang Yin adds another dimension to the scene. Here, Leisurely Stroll becomes more than the movement of a duck—it suggests a way of living: unhurried, unconstrained, and comfortable following one’s own rhythm.
Using porcelain as paper and cobalt as ink, Huashan brings together the carefree character of the duck and the refined elegance of the magnolia-inspired form.
During a quiet moment of tea, following the little duck with your eyes can feel like wandering beside a pond on a spring day.
Tea within the cup, delight upon its surface, and a moment of ease within oneself.
