Description
Created using our nationally patented Underglaze White technique, this piece fills a long-standing gap in traditional porcelain craftsmanship. Compared with conventional reserve-painted plum blossom decoration, it achieves greater depth, refinement, and elegance.
Using negative space as the brush, the artisan defines each plum blossom against a blue-and-white cobalt ground, then fills the petals with a pure white glaze. The piece is completed in a single high-temperature firing, allowing luminous white blossoms to emerge in striking contrast against the layered cobalt blue. With its precise detailing and demanding firing process, this technique is considerably more challenging than conventional blue-and-white porcelain.
The porcelain body is formed from natural kaolin clay and fired at temperatures above 1,300°C, producing a fine, dense, and durable structure. Its glaze is smooth and lustrous like jade, with a subtle blue tint beneath the white and a warm, velvety finish.
For personal use, it reflects the cultivated spirit of the traditional Chinese scholar. As a gift, it conveys refined taste and heartfelt blessings. Whether presented to a tea lover, a respected elder, or someone who appreciates fine tea, each recipient can understand the elegance and meaning held quietly within the cup.

The hand-painted motif created by Huashan Zhuoyin is known as Magpies on a Plum Branch, also called Joy upon the Brow. In Chinese folk culture, the magpie is regarded as an auspicious messenger of joyful news, symbolizing celebration, happiness, good fortune, and approaching blessings. Because the Chinese words for “plum” and “brow” share a similar pronunciation, the image conveys the wish that joy is arriving and happy occasions are near.
Huashan Zhuoyin employs its signature Underglaze White technique, applying a specially formulated white glaze within the blue-and-white outlines of the plum blossoms. A flourishing plum tree unfolds across the porcelain, its branches twisting gracefully with strength and vitality. Two magpies perch upon the branches, facing one another as if engaged in conversation. Their lively postures and finely observed details bring remarkable movement and narrative depth to the composition.
Rooted in traditional blue-and-white painting while incorporating contemporary Underglaze White craftsmanship, the piece brings two underglaze pigments together in perfect harmony. Its refined character reflects the poetic spirit of Chinese literati painting, while the composition—carefully arranged according to the golden ratio—creates an enduring sense of balance and visual elegance. It stands as one of Huashan Zhuoyin’s signature masterpieces.
